What's under the hood

Specs on paper are easy to write. Here's what BalVPS actually runs on, and why it matters for your workload.

KVM virtualization
Every BalVPS server runs on KVM — Kernel-based Virtual Machine. With KVM, your server gets dedicated CPU and RAM resources that aren't shared with other customers at the hypervisor level. You get a real isolated environment with its own kernel, which means you can load kernel modules, run Docker, set up custom networking, or do anything else that requires low-level system access.

250 Mbit/s dedicated bandwidth
A lot of providers advertise "1 Gbps unmetered" ports. What they don't mention is that this port is shared between dozens of servers on the same physical machine. During peak hours, your actual throughput can drop to a fraction of what's advertised. BalVPS works differently — every plan includes a dedicated 250 Mbit/s channel that isn't affected by what your neighbours are doing.

SSD storage
SSD storage on every plan. Fast enough for database-heavy applications, web servers, and anything that does frequent read/write operations. No spinning disks, no storage bottlenecks slowing down an otherwise capable server.

Datacenter — Infonet DC, Tallinn
Our servers are housed in Infonet DC — a carrier-neutral datacenter in Tallinn, Estonia. Carrier-neutral means multiple network providers connect here, which translates to better routing and no single point of failure. Tallinn is well-connected to Helsinki, Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw, and Stockholm with consistently low latency.

Operating systems
Linux and Windows Server, both supported on all plans. On the Linux side, we offer the distributions people actually use. You can reinstall the OS at any time from your control panel — no need to contact support.

Daily backups
Automatic daily backups run on every plan, included in the price. Not an add-on, not a premium feature. Restoring from a backup doesn't require contacting support — you do it yourself from the control panel in a few minutes.
