Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions we get most often. If something isn't covered here, write to support@balvps.com.

Getting started
Your server is provisioned automatically after payment. From the moment you complete the order to having a running server with SSH access — it takes under 2 minutes. No manual steps on our end, no waiting for someone to click a button.
A working knowledge of Linux helps — things like connecting via SSH, editing config files, and managing packages. If you're new to this, there's a lot of good documentation online for whichever distribution you choose. If you get stuck, our support team is available via the ticket system.
On the Linux side: Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, AlmaLinux, and a few others. Windows Server is also available on all plans. You can reinstall the OS at any time from your control panel — no need to contact support.
KVM stands for Kernel-based Virtual Machine. It gives your server a fully isolated environment with dedicated resources — unlike container-based virtualization where the kernel is shared. In practical terms it means you can run Docker, load kernel modules, configure custom networking, and generally do things that don't work on cheaper OpenVZ-based hosts. All BalVPS plans run on KVM.
Billing & payments
Bank transfer, Stripe, PayPal, cryptocurrency, and FreeKassa.
No. The price listed on the plans page is what you pay every month. Nothing added at checkout, nothing added at renewal.
All payments are non-refundable once the server has been provisioned and activated. We're upfront about this because we think it's fairer than burying it in the fine print. Full details in our Terms of Service.
Prices shown exclude VAT. VAT is applied at checkout based on your location, in line with EU regulations.
Technical
Yes. You can move to any higher Core plan from your control panel at any time. The upgrade is processed without data loss.
Yes — daily automatic backups are included with every plan at no extra cost. You can restore from any recent backup yourself through the control panel. No support ticket needed, no waiting.
Yes. The 250 Mbit/s on every Core plan is a dedicated channel allocated to your server — not a shared port split between multiple customers. This is different from how most budget providers handle bandwidth, where "1 Gbps unmetered" often means a heavily shared port that slows down under load.
Yes. BalVPS operates entirely within the EU. Your data is physically stored in Estonia and subject to GDPR and Estonian data protection law. We don't transfer data outside the EEA.
